Summer Cool

Anyone who knows me well would have seen the numerous posts on social media of my fur babies. I proudly own four dogs, two, of whom are with my mom. With the intense heat SL has been experiencing I noticed my dogs were less active than usual. Speaking to my vet he informed me that the weather has been having a deep impact on our furry loved ones. So I set on to find out what we I can do to make it easier for them.
1. Hydrate
Dogs pant non-stop to cool themselves during summer, this causes them to dehydrate pretty quickly. Keep several bowls of cold water inside the house as well as outside. Check the bowls from time to time and refill after cleaning them.
2. Fans/Air Conditioners
It's best to keep them inside during the hot days and have a stand fan tilted to the floor where they sit. This helps them to cool themselves. If you have an AC then this problem is largely mitigated.
3. Groom
Dogs, especially furry ones shed during summer to help them stand the heat. You can help further by brushing them daily to get rid of excess hair. Furthermore trimming their fur can provide them further relief.
4. Cool Beds
If you do not have access to cooling pads try freezing the dog's bed sheets, this is a tried and tested method it cools the sheet, in turn making it a comfortable bed for the dogs.
5. Less Exercise
Do not over exercise your dog during summer as it can make them weak. Try playing with them around 5 PM to 6 PM in the evening just before the sun goes down as it is cooler. If this is not possible try earlier in the morning.
6. Proper Shade
If you are going to leave them outside for prolonged period ensure they have proper shade and plenty of water.
These are my tried and tested methods, please feel free to leave any comments below with any methods that can be added. Dog lovers everywhere will appreciate it :-)
